Where do I stand, Coach?

Every season starts the same way: six new kids, six rotations, and one question on repeat.

ROTATION 3 OF 6 ?
The kitchen table, Tuesday night: a court on paper, six coins, and one coach walking Rotation 3 alone.
?
Tryouts week

Half the new kids do not understand rotating yet, including a couple who played last season. Every water break, the same question from a different face: where do I stand in Rotation 4?

The kitchen table

So you do what coaches have always done: two pennies, two nickels, two dimes, sliding coins around the table to walk six rotations. Then you hand out a photocopied sheet and hope it survives the ride home.

Match night

The laminated cheat sheet on your clipboard was right in August. Two lineup changes later it is fiction, and the referee just called an overlap nobody on your bench saw coming.

The rotation sheet was never the problem. Updating it was.

Draw your serve receive once, one rotation per step, on a real court. When the lineup changes you move a marker, not redraw the sheet. Print it clean for the clipboard, laminate it if that is your way, and send your assistants a link that is never out of date.

  1. Six rotations, six steps

One board holds the whole system. Step through Rotation 1 to Rotation 6 like film, and print every frame in one go.

  2. The why, not just the where

Players see where they stand relative to each other, rotation by rotation, so the alignment finally has a picture to go with the rule.

  3. Print. Laminate. Reprint.

The sheet prints clean every time. When the lineup changes, you print again instead of redrawing, and the old version stops living on your clipboard.

The butterfly: serve, pass, target. Follow your ball to the next line.

Drills your players can read

Serve, pass, target, then follow your ball to the next line. Ball paths dashed, player paths solid, both sides running at once. One diagram on the wall and the whole gym flows without you re-explaining it. Coach and Tosser markers are there too for the drills that need them.

Free. No card. Nothing to install. If your next rotation sheet does not come out cleaner than the one on your clipboard, close the tab and you have lost nothing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a rotation sheet in ClickPlays?
Yes. Draw each rotation as a step of one board: six rotations, six frames. Print them clean for the clipboard, or share a read-only link with your staff and team.
Does it work for 5-1, 6-2, and 4-2 systems?
Yes. You place the players, so any system and any receive shape works: draw the alignments you actually run and name the board after your system.
Can I diagram serve receive and base defense?
Yes. Place all six players on a regulation court, add movement and ball paths, and use steps for each rotation or phase.
Can I draw practice drills?
Yes. Coach and Tosser markers are built in, so butterfly drills, serving progressions, and defensive drills read the way you would draw them on the gym whiteboard.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan includes the full editor, saving, printing, and sharing. No credit card required.
Do my players need accounts to see the sheets?
No. Share a read-only link and anyone can open it in a browser.
