Plays for a field with zones to gain

The high school 7v7 field is four 20-yard zones, and a first down means crossing the next zone line, at the 20s and the 40. Tries come from the 3 and the 10. So a 7v7 set needs more than deep shots: zone-line pickups, a red zone read and a try play. Here are six, drawn on the FHSAA field. Solid is a route, dashed is the ball, dotted is pre-snap motion.

21 Four Verticals

The 7v7 classic. Four receivers stretch the field while the RB checks to the flat. The QB throws the seam to whichever inside receiver clears their zone, here W.

CQBRBXWZY
22 Smash

Hitches at 5 on both sidelines with corners breaking over the top. One defender is asked to cover two levels; the QB reads corner first, hitch second, either side.

CQBRBXWZY
23 Mesh

X and Z cross shallow while W sits on the dig at 10 and Y posts behind everything. Against zone the dig finds the window; against man the crossers separate. Pass shown to the dig.

24 Zone Line Outs

Speed outs at 6, thrown past the zone line to gain. W and Z run verticals to lift the deep defenders; the QB picks a sideline before the snap and throws on the break, here Y.

CQBRBXWZY
25 Corner Flat

The red zone read: Y bends the corner over Z in the flat, one side, two levels. Corner first, flat second, and the flat walks in when the corner draws two.

26 The Try

From the 3, one point on the line. Z motions across and swings straight to the flat; the throw comes now, before the rush arrives, while X and W clear the middle.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are these 7 on 7 plays free to use?
Yes. Run them as drawn or redraw them in the play editor with your own numbers and names. The free plan is the full play editor with one playbook and unlimited plays.
What field are these plays drawn on?
The high school 7v7 field per the FHSAA rulebook: 100 by 40 yards, four 20-yard zones with lines to gain at the 20s and the 40, and try lines at the 3 and the 10.
How is 7v7 different from 5v5?
Two more players a side and a bigger field organized in zones, so first downs come from zone lines instead of a single midfield line. ClickPlays ships both fields; the 5v5 set is on its own page.
Can I change a route?
Yes. Every play here is a normal drawing in the play editor: move a player, redraw a route, rename, renumber, reprint.
